World Access for the Blind has helped over 5,000 blind people, their families, their instructors, and members of their communities in 18 countries worldwide by delivering Mobility/FlashSonar workshops, public awareness events, and Perceptual Mobility Therapy. Our new and unique method teaches blind people to see in new ways by training the brain to gain detailed images of the world through sound and touch - like lighting a match in the dark. Blind kids become more confident and active; parents more savvy and effective; blind adults more self-sufficient; blindness professionals gratefully become more knowledgeable with higher standards. By our approach, people grow from being passive recipients to active contributors. Through your generous support, we continue to help blind children and adults globally to improve their quality of life, to challenge poverty and social isolation, and to realize their dreams.
Your Donations will support World Access for the Blind in one of three ways:
Mobility Programs for Blind People – Our mobility coaches, who are blind themselves, provide Mobility Training and FlashSonar Instruction to over 100 blind people in Southern California and around the world every year. In many countries, services and mobility instruction for blind people are almost nonexistent. We strive to change this by traveling to these students and providing them the education and training they need to lead fulfilling and enriched lives.
Sports Programs for Blind Youth – Sports are a wonderful way for blind youth to access their community and make friends, to build confidence and independence, and to become more active and healthy. We believe that ALL sports, from soccer to mountain biking, can be adapted for blind people. We provide sports clinics to blind youth throughout Southern California so that they can learn how to adapt any sport that they want to play and improve their skills.
Laptop Program for Blind Students - In today’s society, some of the most important tools for equalizing access and opportunities for the blind are computers and technology. We accept donated laptops/desktops and refurbish them to make them useable and accessible for the blind.
